Essential Job Functions: 1. Plans and administers skills assessments for the hiring of new staff.
2. Oversees and coordinates the recruitment, training, scheduling, certification, and performance of student employees of the facility; supervises the day-to-day activities of staff and custodial employees.
3. Reports to the Director of Quality Assurance, Special Events and Facilities Leasing any incidents, rescues, problems, or equipment in need of repair.
4. Plans and sets up all events and in-service training sessions for the staff.
5. Creates, coordinates, and oversees the administration of the facility, to include scheduling of facility operations and contract management.
6. Creates and maintains user-group scheduling of the pools.
7. Markets, develops, implements, and oversees a variety of aquatics programs for students, faculty, staff, and/or members of the public.
8. Communicates with potential external user-groups who are interested in renting the pool.
9. Effectively communicates with staff head lifeguards/lifeguards and monitors their actions.
10. Oversees the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance.
11. Ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; ensures pools are compliant with all local, state, and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation.
12. Develops and maintains records of operational facility usage; monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies.
13. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Marginal Job Functions: Additional Duties:
14. Plans and runs all head lifeguard/lifeguard staff meetings.
15. Makes recommendations on how to improve the recreation center's procedures.
16. Delegates tasks and duties to head lifeguards/lifeguards as needed.
17. Plans and teaches American Red Cross certification courses: Lifeguarding, First Aid/CPR/AED, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, Bloodborne Pathogens, Administering Oxygen, and any additional American Red Cross courses (must hold current Lifeguard Instructor certification).
18. Plans and schedules American Red Cross water safety courses: Learn to Swim, Adult Swim, Water Safety, and any additional American Red Cross courses.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Proficiency using When2Work for scheduling
2. Proficiency using the American Red Cross Learning Center
3. Proficiency using Microsoft Outlook
4. Familiar with American Red Cross standards and operations
5. Ability to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays
6. Ability to problem solve quickly in stressful situations
7. Ability planning robust training sessions
8. Ability to communicate with upper administration about the needs of the Aquatic staff and institute
9. Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:
• Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person.
• Speech Clarity - Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand you.
• Nonverbal Communication – Must be able to identify patrons in distress without asking or being told
• Fitness – Must be physically fit to perform life-saving skills, such as CPR for extended periods of time, removing individuals from swimming pools, etc.
• Near and far Vision - Must be able to see details at close and far range
• Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.
• May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
• May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
• May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.

Job Requirements:  
Required Certifications/Licensures: 1. American Red Cross Lifeguarding
2. American Red Cross CPR/AED/First aid for Professional Rescuers
3. American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen
4. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor
5. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Management
Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Major (if required):  
Required Experience: 1. Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of lifeguarding experience.
2. Minimum one (1) to two (2) years of lifeguarding instructor experience.
3. Minimum two (2) to four (4) years of mechanical/chemical pool experience.
4. Minimum one (1) to two (2) years of aquatic management experience.
